Presenter Laura Jackson's Top Style Tips For Faking It As A Parisian

GALLERY>> Laura Jackson's Tips To Fake It As A Parisian

TV presenter Laura Jackson might look like she was rasied on the Rue de Rivoli, but really she was born in Huddersfield. Her wardrobe is packed with breton tees, smoking tuxedos, loafers and classic handbags. So who better to teach us how to fake it as a Parisian?

Say it with a hat...

Parisian it girls love their Maison Michel Hats, which are designed by one of the coolest women in France, Laetitia Crahay. Her designs vary from cool floppy hats (think Alexa) to bunny eared beauties (think Minnie Mouse meets Clemence Posey). Pop on a hat with some skinny black jeans, biker boots and a white shirt and no one will question your French authenticity.

The new ‘IT’ Brand… Saint Laurent

Jump on the Hedi Slimane bandwagon and treat yourself to some Saint Laurent. I love the androgynous suits, fabulous duffle bags and the more affordable neck ties. Avoid post-shopping guilt by convincing yourself it is an investment. Gulp!

Less is more...

When it comes to beauty, stock up on the French essentials which are available from all good pharmacies. My three favourites are...
1. Bioderma, which initially was intended for medical prescription, is a gentle cleanser that works like a dream.
2. The moisturiser embryolisse is beautiful. It has been available for 60 years in French pharmacies!
3. You'll find caudalie, the lip conditioner, in all Parisian handbags

Immerse yourself in all things French…

Before you watch Anna Karina in a Jean-Luc Godard film, look at photos of Jane and Serge and Francoise Hardy from the swigging sixties for inspiration. Or listen to Lou Doillon’s new album, Places. It's rather good!

Keep it simple...

Pack a muted colour palette with navy, grey and black rather than pastels. Think Jane Birkin. The French invest in timeless key pieces, aiming for a small but versatile wardrobe. Oh and don't forget your trusty Breton.

Don’t just look like a Parisian, smell like one too…

Head to the Diptique store in Saint Germain to find a signature Parisian fragrance. Just be careful not to pick the scent used in work toilet candles. Not so chic!
