Anything Kate Middleton wears is guaranteed a flurry of fascination, but the dress she chose for the unveiling of Prince George will go down in history. The world had waited for days, tantalised by the promise of Kate emerging from the Lindo Wing with the future King in her arms - and finally she appeared looking picture-perfect. Pale blue and covered in white polka dots, the frock was an ideal choice for the new mum. And it came as no surprise to hear one of Kate's favourite designers, Jenny Packham, was the lady behind it. So how did it feel to be part of such a historical occasion?

'I was in Japan on holiday at the time,' Packham told us backstage at her show. 'It was the middle of the night when I first saw pictures of her in the dress so I was frustrated not to there and be a part of it.' But that doesn't mean the Brit designer didn't celebrate like the rest of us. 'I was very excited and it was such a lovely moment to involved in. It was quite surreal, actually'. We can imagine!

And something tells us there'll be more surreal moments to come for Ms JP. Packham presented her Spring Summer 2014 collection as part of New York Fashion Week today and the gowns were more whimsically feminine than ever. The collection was influenced by Australian cult film ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock’ made in 1975. 'You have to watch it!' Packham insisted when we met her post-show. 'When you watch it, you'll never get over it.'
So the starting point was 'the most glamorous picnic ever', Packham explains, with the models showcasing austere Edwardian attire - high necks, pearls, embellishments - but reimagined with a '70s twist. It was the hair-dos, however, that really screamed retro glamour. The look was inspired by a black and white image of Kate Moss, which was stuck to the backstage mood board [below right]. 'For the last few shows, we've done the hair back and sleek so I wanted to go bigger this time,' says the designer. 'The '70s curls worked with the collection but there's a fuzziness to it.'

As the show kicked into action, Christina Hendricks took her seat on the front row - who better to channel that retro glamour than the Mad Men actress? She wore a cocktail dress from the Autumn Winter 2013 collection and told us she chose it because of the '20s vibe and gorgeous blue hue. 'I'm a romantic dresser so I try to stay classic, which is why I love Jenny's designs' she revealed. Looks like K-Middy's not the only JP super-fan.
