The Altuzarra family backstage post-show [Grazia_Live Instagram]
In the same week that Kering announced it had taken a minority stake in Joseph Altuzarra's young business, the designer delivered perhaps the most polished and accomplished collection of his career to date (read our show report). When it comes to accolades, you could never accuse Altuzarra of underachieving with both a CFDA Award for his womenswear design and recognition of his talents within the business community. But the new investment is set to take his work to a whole new level. We grabbed five minutes with the man himself to find out what Fashion Week is like when you're at the eye of the storm...
Grazia Daily: What’s your favourite thing about New York City?
Joseph Altuzarra: 24/7 delis.
Grazia Daily: What do you hate about the city?
Joseph Altuzarra: Noise pollution, I hate how loud it is here all the time! We’re in China Town so it never lets up.
Grazia Daily: Where do you live and why?
Joseph Altuzarra: I live in Chelsea because that’s where my partner lives and I moved in with him!
Grazia Daily: Describe a typical Sunday at your place
Joseph Altuzarra: We wake up and I go and get coffee at Starbucks – two Venti Ice Coffees with room - and egg white spinach rolls. The we walk our dog Bean – a miniature schnauzer. Then we watch this show called CBS Sunday Morning which is kinda of an old fogey show. Then we usually go for brunch and sort of walk around all day. There is a smoothie place called one lucky duck by my apartment that I love to go to during the weekend.

Grazia Daily: What is your favourite place to a)drink, b)eat and c)people watch?
Joseph Altuzarra: To eat would be Redfarm, a Chinese restaurant in the West Village. A) drink would be Mercer. And to people watch Smile just across the street from our office.
Grazia Daily: What is one thing a New Yorker knows that could help a tourist in town?
Joseph Altuzarra: Oh yeah, taxi times. You cant find a taxi between 4.30 and 5.30. You have to take public transport because tis the time that taxis use to switch shifts and you cant get a cab for love nor money.
Grazia Daily: What do you love about New York Fashion Week?
Joseph Altuzarra: The energy. I think it’s a really such a young, exciting energy.

Joseph Altuzarra: Manhattan I’ve lived in Brooklyn but Manhattan is way easier for me.
Grazia Daily: Where do you go to get in touch with your roots?
Joseph Altuzarra: Well I’m in touch with my Chinese roots basically everyday as our office is in ChinaTown. My French roots sometimes I go to Balthazar, I really like it and it feels so French. It's always packed.
