SBC Trainer Russell Bateman Shares His Top 5 Tip For Having Healthy Fashion Week

12 September 2013 by

We're not even halfway through Fashion Month and already we're noticing the effects of early mornings, late nights and caffeine fuelled report writing. Whether you're involved in the industry or having a stressful time at work one of the worst things you can do is ignore your health in favour of your inbox. Luckily this week we had the pleasure / pain of a training session with SBC founder Russell Bateman, who puts the likes of Edie Campbell and Poppy Delevingne through their paces with his high intensity, high reward workouts. Not only did he introduce us to the single leg burpie (thanks Russell), but he shared his top tips for having a healthy Fashion Week...

1. Keep Hydrated

Try a mix of Coconut water, green tea and lemon.

Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes, such as potassium, necessary for proper hydration to generate energy in the body. Choose the unflavored, natural varieties; otherwise you might be consuming all that added sugar that you would get from fruit juice or fizzy drinks which should be avoided. Green tea increases the metabolism and the polyphenol found in it increases fat loss. Lemon meanwhile aids digestion.

2. Get Energised

Spirulina and maca are my superfood supplements of choice.

Spirulina is a remarkably potent anti-oxidant and offers a host of benefits for wellness. Maca can help to balance out hormonal issues. Add these to a shake or juice and upgrade your fashion week immediately. We love the organic burst variety.

3. Breathe!

Take 10 deep breaths in and out, breathing only through your nose. Instant endorphin fuelled energy boost.

4. Nap

In between castings, shows, presentations; take a Nap!

There is nothing you can do for yourself that is more important for gaining energy/vitality and restoring your body-mind than sleep. Research shows that taking naps between 10-20 minutes long can have a very beneficial restorative effect on the body-mind. This is a great form of energy cultivation and has no negative side effects either.

5. All About The Prep

Preparing your food for the next day ahead could be crucial. Pack your Tupperware with organic produce and snack on berries (hi anti oxidant value) nuts (healthy fats and omega 3 content) and high protein foods. Raw vegetables are great too. Take a digestive enzyme and this protocol will reap benefits for energy, mood and brain function and get you leaner!
