Get The Look: Stella McCartney’s Sleek Ponytails and Braided Buns

In amongst all the madness of any given Fashion Week, a little light-hearted (or sugar-based) respite never fails to go down an absolute treat, be it a Caramel Krispy Kreme (or better a cronut), some good tunes backstage or even a quick foot rub from an obliging manicurist. Honestly, it’s all about the small things that keep the fash and beauty-pack going. So, you can imagine how utterly over the moon we were to head on down to Stella McCartney’s LFW show on Tuesday. With real athletes (no models allowed) taking part in live yoga, spinning and synchronized swimming, the energy was electric, energetic and just what we needed post a manic 5 days of shows.

What’s more, the beauty look was, dare we say it, ‘sporty’, but with a fresher, more updated spin. Aveda’s Global Hair Artist, Antoinette Beenders, was on hand to transform the girls into ‘high-performance’ beauties. Hair was prepped after washing and conditioning using Aveda’s Abundance, Be Curly or Smooth Infusion depending on the girl’s hair type and the finished look was an uber-sleek ponytail and sharp braided buns. Totally gorgeous! The hair guru said, “It may all look the same, but every girl has been prepped in a bespoke way to match her hair type.” There's nothing we love more than a bit of bespoke beauty...

1. Prep

Prep the hair according to texture. Use Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair, [a target="_blank" href="http://www.aveda.co.uk/product/5232/16901/Collections/Damage-RemedyTM/Damage-Remedy-Daily-Hair-Repair/index.tmpl">£20.50[/a] to protect the hair from the heat of hairdryers and straighteners. Use Smooth Infusion Style Prep, [a target="_blank" href="http://www.aveda.co.uk/product/5250/16973/Collections/Smooth-InfusionTM/Smooth-Infusion-Style-Prep-Smoother/index.tmpl">£19.50[/a] on top to smooth hair and help tackle humidity.

2. Blow-dry straight

Section hair starting from the back and blow-dry straight with a large round brush brushing the hair in the same direction at the nape of the neck.

3. Grab the Straighteners!

Use a straightener to smooth the hair and mist Air Control Hair Spray, [a target="_blank" href="http://www.lookfantastic.com/aveda-air-control-hair-spray-300ml/10620416.html?utm_source=googleprod&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=gp_haircare&affil=thggpsad&gclid=CMPa3vWr17kCFbLHtAodiXoABw">£18[/a] on each section of hair for a strong but barely-there hold.

4. Secure the look

Guide the hair back into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure tightly with millinery elastic. Comb through the length of the ponytail and smooth through again with a straightener for a perfectly groomed finish.

5. Get the Ponytail Version

For the ponytail look: Take a small section from the length of the ponytail and braid. Then wrap it around the base of the ponytail and secure with grips.

6. Get the Bun version

For the bun look: Braid hair the length of the ponytail and begin to wrap around base of the elastic. Pin in place.
