When we heard Prince was making an appearance in TV show New Girl we couldn't have been more excited - and he didn't disappoint. The normally media-shy singer is hilarious in the episode which premiered in the US after the Super Bowl.
In the episode Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) scoop invites to Prince's LA house for one of his infamous all-night parties. Jess is in the midst of relationship drama with Nick (Jake Johnson) so of course he sneaks in too and all hell breaks loose.
The first time we see the 'Purple Rain' legend is when he pops up during a typically awkward Nick and Jess relationship chat. Jess obviously reacts very calmly to his arrival..
Shooing Nick, Prince drags Jess away for pancakes, ping pong and an incredible makeover sequence to track 'When You Were Mine'.
Prince not only gives Jess a glam new look, he also puts her through her emotional paces with a series of candle lit meditation sessions... and also by locking her in a cupboard. "Anything beautiful's worth getting hurt for," he tells Jess. "You know who said that? Me."
Elsewhere Schmidt (Max Greenfield) tries to ditch his old friends for "better" ones and Winston (Lamorne Morris) tries to chat up Alessandra Ambrosio....
The climax of the programme is Prince pulling Jess up on stage for a performance of a never-before-heard track with the lyrics "don't you wanna fall in love tonight". Prince dons Willy Wonka shades as he croons through a megaphone, Jess sports her glam new look and the rest of the gang join them to dance wildy. How did Jess know the lyrics? "I think Prince is magic," she tells the boys.
The best bit of all though? Nick's flashback to dressing up as Prince in his high school years. So chic.
