Just when you were getting tired of swiping, Tinder's upped its game and introduced verified celebrity profiles.
The dating app - which is believed to be used by Jamie Kennedy, Lindsay Lohan, Ashton Kutcher and Josh Groban - is introducing a similar system to Facebook and Twitter to help stars prove they are who they appear to be. Not only are they going to get the Tinder seal of approval, they're also going to be able to sign up without a Facebook account - making it easier for celebrities who avoid social media to have a swipe.
Tinder CEO Sean Rad said stars used to struggle to get dates because people thought their accounts were fake. 'We’ve had celebrities reach out to us frequently throughout the last year, sort of calling out various frustrations convincing users that they were actually who they are' he said.
'One impediment is that sometimes their Facebook accounts, which we pull information from, includes different names than their actual likeness… So [celebrities] were asking for the ability to modify their Tinder name and maybe have a verified badge.'
The move comes after huge success with the athletes at the Sochi Winter Olympics who were apparently using the app to hook-up. (See all their profiles here.) Rad told the Wall Street Journal that the app saw a 400 percent day-over-day spike in growth during the Games.
Star are already lining up to get their own verified account. Lily Allen tweeted yesterday she was having fun on the app. 'Just discovered tinder. *Waves goodbye to life*,' she posted. Plus, apparently fans waiting by the Oscars red carpet in LA earlier this month logged into Tinder in the hope of matching with a celebrity.
