In this week’s issue of Grazia, we talk exclusively to the planet’s most famous female rock-star, the one and only Courtney Love. In an access all areas chat, conducted in her dressing room at Shepherd’s Bush Empire while eating cheese and drinking fine French plonk chosen by Stephen Fry, Ms Love had a lot to say to Grazia’s Emily Maddick.
On Peaches Geldof's recent death – and how she tried to help her
‘You just can't believe it happened, its so f***ing tragic,' she says. 'This girl was vivacious, so full of life and it is weird and horrible that she has passed away.’ Courtney says she was shocked because, like many others, she thought Peaches turned her life around.
‘But then I read heroin was involved and I was not shocked. I know how Peaches liked opiates.' Courtney recalls a time in 2010, when Peaches was living in Los Angeles and heavily in to drugs. She came to see her at the Chateau Marmont with a friend who had a bag full of prescription drugs including the opiate-based Oxycontin, known as 'hillbilly heroin.'

'My drug was heroin, I stopped taking it in the Nineties,' she says, 'but I have taken the pills, the Roxycontin, Oxycontin. Peaches was unfortunately in my room with a friend who had a bag full of these drugs...like 500 pills and I wanted it so badly, never have I wanted anything more; no man, no money, and I had to physically push Peaches and her friend out the door. I was shaking and I kept thinking of the way her mother died and I thought I owe it to this girl to be an example. I was trying to help her, I was trying to mentor her, but at that point in her life, it proved to be impossible. Now the parallels to her Mommy are horrific. It terrifies me for my own child.’
On her relationship with her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain
‘We’re great now, we live four doors down from each other in LA,’ she says. ‘She’s 21, an avid reader; she’s read all the classics. And she’s so f***ing beautiful, like Angelina beautiful, a little TOO beautiful, it’s freaking me out. She’s been offered every luxury campaign you can imagine, but she’s not interested.’ Frances’ fiancé, Isaiah Silva of the band The Eeries, looks remarkably like her father. ‘He looks like Kurt right?’ says Courtney. ‘He’s a saint, ‘cos she’s a handful, and I’ve no f***ing idea where she gets THAT from!!’
On her former husband, Kurt Cobain, who killed himself 20 years ago
‘You have to put yourself in Franny’s shoes when it comes to her father, because she feels like she’s related to Santa Claus. Like, everyone loves him, but she says she retains no memory of Santa Claus. Whereas I can remember him; his laugh; what he was like in bed and how he was with her.’

On the lessons she learnt from L’Wren Scott’s recent death
‘L’Wren’s passing taught me was don’t ever covet anything or anyone’s life and she had a fabulous life, although I love Sir Mick, and he’s given me good advice in my life, but Mick Jagger as a boyfriend, that’s a little spooky for me. But her legs! Her wardrobe! The way she’d enter a room! But the lesson was, you never f***ing know what’s going on in someone’s life.’
And to find out why Courtney wants to publically apologise to her friend, Kate Moss, well you will just have to pick up the new issue of Grazia, out now.
