Finally, the trailer for the latest Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration The Wolf Of Wall Street has arrived and it looks amazing. Watch it below and join us as we countdown the 5 things we’ve learned about the film...
1) Leo Is The New Patrick Bateman
…Or rather his character Jordan Belfort is. Channelling the spirit of '80s consumerism (oh hai, slinky Porsches, drinks of Perrier, waves of power suits and mega-yachts), JB is the Patrick 'American Psycho' Bateman for 2013.
2) Gatsby Would Be Proud
The film’s based on the book of the same name by Jordan Belfort (who was convicted of manipulating the stock market). The trailer present a Wall Street reality which is very much a pre-crash. Here all the cheques are bigger than the shoulder pads (just look at the ‘more, More, MORE is never enough’ trailer tagline). After playing Jay Gatsby (and the news that he’s going to be starring as Rasputin) Leo’s clearly got a thing for playing deeply flawed monomaniacs. Can the announcement that he's starring in Putin! The Movie be anything but mere moments away?
3) Martin Scorsese Is Never Better Than When He’s Doing New York
Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Gangs Of New York, New York, New York, Taxi Driver….The legendary director is never better than when he’s dealing with the troublesome underworld that operates the underbelly of Noo Yoik. …Wolf looks like it’s Scorsese back to his Mean-Streets-Of-Manhattan-surfing best.
4) Black Skinhead is the new No Church In The Wild
The new track from Kanye West’s Yeezus sets the tone for the trailer. With its ricocheting drums and primal yelps, the track hints at the tension going on beneath the power suited façade. It’s also means that the song has replaced the Watch The Throne opener No Church In The Wild as the go-to atmospheric song for trailers (see: Gangster Squad and The Great Gatsby).
5) Also: Leo's early attempts at Prancercise are pretty impressive
