January is a great time to get yourself some new ear-worms. There are some amazing bands who are about to see their careers explode in 2013 including AlunaGeorge (check out our interview with the band in our issue out on 29 December). But we're also really impressed by the incredible female talent so in honour of all the ladies out there representing, here are our top 5 new girls in music for 2013...
Half-German, half-American, 20 year old Arlissa lives in Crystal Palace. She's already had a collaboration with Nas on the track Hard To Love Somebody' and her debut single Sticks and Stones is out in March...
2. Laura Mvula
She made the BBC Sound of 2013 longlist and came third in the 2013 BRITs Critics' Choice Award. With industry pros signing up to work with her including Amy Winehouse's drummer Troy Miller, we can't wait for her debut album Sing To The Moon out on 4th March.
3. Gabrielle Aplin
You'll know her as the voice of John Lewis's Christmas ad which featured her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's The Power of Love. With a debut album set for release in Spring, and a second single Please Don't Say You Love Me out on 10th February, we reckon she's already got a pretty good foundation for musical success.
Ok, technically they're a three piece but we reckon they're still going to be huge. These three sisters from LA count Florence Welch and Harry Styles as fans.
5. Angel Haze
With a collaboration with Azealia Banks in the offing, 21 year old Michigan rapper could definitely give Rihanna a run for her money in the style stakes...
