Angelina Jolie with Louis “Louie” Zamperini
Exciting news - Angelina Jolie’s latest directorial effort now has a trailer, which you can now watch below.
Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s hugely successful book, Unbroken follows the life of Louie Zamperini. After muddling his way onto the US Olympic team, Louie’s athletics career is cut short when he is enlisted to fight in World War II – where his plane crashes, leaving him and two crewman to survive in a leaky raft in shark infested waters for 47 days. When they are eventually discovered, it is by the Japanese Navy, and so begins a horrific internment at a prisoner-of-war camp. The film has been described as an ‘inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.’
Unbroken marks Jolie's second stint in the directors chair, following her debut In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011. Speaking about the project, she’s said, ‘I wanted to direct something again, but I wasn’t sure what. It had to be something I would love and care about. It takes much more time away from your family and much more effort than acting. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done.’
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until Boxing Day to see the fruits of her labours in full. We might just watch Maleficent on a loop until then TBH.
