Tween hearts broke the world over when pictures emerged of Robert Pattinson leaving his love nest with Kristen Stewart in a truck stuffed with belongings. The dreamy entity known as Robsten was officially over (sob). But the good news is: there could be a new celebrity couple on the horizon! What do you, ladies and gents, make of R-Pez?
You see, Rob has turned to his long-time pal Katy Perry for a shoulder to cry on - his BFF Tom Sturridge is busy being Sienna Miller's baby daddy - and rumours have been swirling that the pair are more than just friends.
The buzz stepped up a notch when Katy and Rob were seen watching a wedding rehearsal together in Santa Barbara. Curious - given that it was also reported that neither of the stars knew anyone at the venue. 'Katy and Robert have been spending a lot of time together recently and it's safe to say there is serious chemistry,' a source told Grazia at the time.
The couple have since been seen hanging out in LA and last week attended a Bjork concert at the Hollywood Palladium together. According to X17Online, the pair met up 'discreetly' and made their way into the gig together before leaving separately to avoid photographers waiting outside the venue. Crafty!
So is Katy moving in for the kill? Is Rob hooked on her boobalicious beauty? These two would certainly make a cute couple but honestly, we're torn about whether they should or shouldn't happen. So let's assess, shall we?
WHY R-PATTZ + K-PEZ SHOULD HAPPEN
1. They'd make a less scowl-y couple than Robsten
We all know Katy is a right hoot and her sense of humour goes down a treat with the Twilight actor. 'Rob really likes Katy. There's always been a bit of a spark between them,' a source revealed. And look no further than these pics from the 2010 Teen Choice Awards when the pair larked about together backstage. How can you not have a giggle with Geek Katy?
2. Katy knows how to handle British men
Of course, Katy was once Mrs Russell Brand and often trilled about the benefits of being with a British bloke. Despite divorcing just 14 months after getting hitched, the singer hasn't been put off and sounds ready for her next challenge. 'I still believe in love, most definitely. I still like London boys,' she told The Mirror newspaper. And - ooh, look at that! - Mr Pattz is from London too. As for Rob, he's accustomed to the charms of American ladies having dated K-Stew for four years and looks set to stay in LA instead of moving back to his native Blighty (much to our woe).
3. Katy has long crushed on Rob
Waaay before the pair started hanging out at hip places like Coachella, Katy admitted to having a lickle wee crush on R-Pattz at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. She was even spotted gawping at his hotness in Blackbook magazine while on holiday in Miami in July 2012. Who can blame the girl?
4. They share similar interests
While Katy has made a career of her singing chops, Rob is a musician himself. He sung a tune for the Twilight soundtrack and many of his warblings have ended up on YouTube, like the throaty rendition below. So it's no surprise the pair have been spotted hanging out at numerous gigs together, from the recent Bjork concert to a trip to Coachella in May (when K-Stew was in tow - eeks). Could a duet be on the cards?!
5. They have their friendship group sorted
Rob and Katy already share the same circle of friends, which would make hanging out very convenient. Katy's long-time BFF is Shannon Woodward, the teeny actress known for playing Sabrina on Raising Hope (nah, us neither). Shannon is also the ex-girlfriend of Andrew Garfield who's mates with, yep, our R-Pattz. In fact, when Rob first moved to LA during the heady days of early Twilight-ing, he was often seen with Shannon. The trio now frequently hang out together, like at the after party for Katy Perry's film, Part of Me.
WHY R-PATTZ + K-PEZ SHOULDN'T HAPPEN
1. They're nursing pretty hefty heartbreaks
As you may have heard, Katy and Rob have both gone through high-profile splits. The songstress broke up with John 'the player' Mayer in March while Rob's relationship with Kristen hit the rocks after her 'momentary indiscretion', aka: an affair with married director Rupert Sanders. Can two broken hearts make a whole or are they simply looking for a shoulder to cry on?
2. Katy shares a publicist with K-Stew
Remember the blonde lady who carried K-Stew's crutches at the Oscars this year? She's the very same blonde lady who is often seen accompanying Katy to red carpet shindigs. Yep, Ruth Bernstein is publicist for Katy Perry AND Kristen Stewart. Major awks. How will the PR guru tackle a Pattinson-Perry hook up and keep K-Stew happy? Talk about conflicting interests...
3. Also: aren't K-Pez and K-Stew friends?
It gets ickier when you remember that Katy and Kristen have become good friends and are often spotted hanging out together. Take the Kids' Choice Awards in March when they snuggled up to each other on the FROW [below]. The pair also danced in the grassy fields of Coachella together with Kristen trilling about the joys of being a pop star's pal. 'I have a buddy who has absolutley no qualms being in front of millions of people,' she told Jimmy Kimmel. 'I was with Katy Perry and she wanted to sit up front and suddenly I had to put my hat down because we were like Moses parting the waves of Coachella getting to the front... No one looks at you, it's perfect'. Will these latest rumours mean K-Stew will be without her pap shield?
4. Their approach to fame could cause a clash
We're also struggling with the thought of Rob dating such a kooky pop princess. While the actor is all about staying low-key and posing awkwardly on the red carpet, Katy loves nothing more than a good look-at-me show off. She drenches herself in gloss and glitz and isn't shy about over-the-top PDAs with her men. So if the duo are dating, will she put up with the same sneaking around we saw from Robsten? And can handle Rob handle the red carpet smooches? On the plus side: it could see him coming out of his shell a tad.
5. She'll make it a song
Speaking of which, Rob is adamant that he keeps his private life private so Katy's preference for putting her life into the public-sphere via songs and even documentary films - hello Katy Perry: Part of Me - could make things a tad tricky.
So what's your verdict? Should Rob and Katy get it together or remain friends? Vote below!
