From out-and-out 'nerd' Cara Delevingne to self-confessed 'fan' of Green philosophy Harry Styles, it's never been cooler to be a geek. Cara is a bit of a dork - she knows the Powerpuff Girls' theme tune off by heart, lives in animal onesies and claims her style inspiration is 'Action Man and Spider-Man.' MAC's new range is inspired by US comic book Archie's Girl, Lady Gaga has taken selfies in geek glasses and buttoned up shirts and Harry Styles has come out as a fan of Greek philosophy.
In a new book The Geek Manifesto Mark Henderson agrees that it is the time of the Geek: ‘There has never been a better time to be a geek. Proper geeks are becoming proper celebrities, with an impact and reach that stretches well beyond their core audiences. Whisper it, being a geek is becoming cool.’
But there is such a thing as a 'faux geek girl' who feigns an interest in geekdom to seem kooky and attract certain types. You might know your Vine from your Vimeo, but does that make you a real geek or are you just fooling us with your Topshop 'GEEK' T-shirt and Marni socks and sandals combo?
