Mconaissaince: Matthew McConaughey's Oscars Transformation From Rom-Com Hunk To Oscars 2014 Winner

Oh-ma-gawd have you seen this adorable snap of Matthew McConaughey at his high school prom? It was shared by Chicago Tribune contributor Leah Pickett whose aunt went to prom with Matthew in Longview, Texas. It appears the ladies loved McConaughey even before he was a star as Leah reports the actor was voted the school's 'Most Handsome Student'.

This year belongs to Matthew. In what industry insiders are calling a 'Mconaissaince', the actor has transformed from rom-com hunk to serious, exceptional Oscar-winning actor.

Full-on amazing in Dallas Buyer Club, as he stepped on stage to pick up the Best Actor award at last night's ceremony it was hard to believe Matthew was once mainly known for getting papped walking down beaches topless.

He gave an emotional speech as he collected the prize at last night's awards, expressing his thanks to everyone else involved in the film as well as his family.

'To my father who, I know he's up there right now with a big pot of gumbo,' he said. 'He's got a lemon meringue pie over there. He's probably in his underwear. And he's got a cold can of Miller Lite and he's dancing right now.'

Instead of cooking up a big pot of gumbo, we thought we'd celebrate Matthew's win by looking back at his career evolution - from hitting the big time in Dazed and Confused to starring alongside Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner and Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. And, let's admit it - although we love serious-actor McConaughey (because he is brilliant) - topless rom-com McConaughey did also have his benefits.

Infact up there with one of our favourite things Matthew's ever done was when he starred as himself in Sex and the City. In his hilarious cameo he advised Carry Bradshaw to give her column a happy ending, told her to quit smoking and also repeated his name many times. It only seems right to mark his Mconaissaince by giving the clip a quick view.
