Mills And Boon Enters The World Of Digital Storytelling With 'The Chatsfield'

[The Chatsfield]

When you think of Mills and Boon novel, you think of guilty pleasures. Whether it’s a bath time romantic read or a historical drama, no one can deny this publisher knows a thing or two about what makes good romantic fiction.

This time however, they’re hooking us in with a new spin on storytelling by blending fiction and reality. Inspired by their pre-existing book series The Chatsfield, Mills & Boon has created an online luxury hotel whose characters tell their individual stories side by side.

Dubbed ‘social storytelling’ we’re encouraged to seek out the scandal through characters individual online presences. The protagonist is an Executive Assistant called Jessie Loe. Tasked with a challenge from her New Yorker friend, to stay single for three months, Jessie will be video blogging her story. Not only will we be sneaking a mid-day peak as her videos go live we can also snoop in her inbox, email her and even give her a call whilst piecing the story together. Check out the teaser trailer below...

It doesn’t end with Jessie. There’s over 800 pieces of content coming our way introducing us to a barman with a dark past, a chambermaid with a sideline (that brings her some mega bucks) and of course, a permanent penthouse playboy resident. All the character’s lives begin to intertwine and it’s up to the readers to stitch all of the pieces together.

Joanna Kite, Marketing Manager at Mills & Boon said of the series: “We wanted to use that romantic thread to give creative license to do something totally new.  Our female audience are connecting with stories across many devices and formats, so we wanted to create a new product to maximise on this in order to reach them”.

It’s free to enter and with brands like Glossybox, Fever London and Cupid.com all taking part (and giving us some juicy deals and offers), this might get a little addictive.
