Sham-oooone! Today marks the fourth anniversary of Michael Jackson’s untimely passing, and we thought we’d celebrate by looking at the best tributes he's had since he died.
Madge’s tribute at the MTV Awards in 2009 hit so hard because the two were always at loggerheads in the 80s. "He was a king," she told the rapt audience at the show, "he had the elegance of Fred Astaire and packed the punch of Muhammad Ali." She also tantalizingly revealed that the two had gone out for dinner in 1991 and she had bullied him into taking off his sunglasses. Amazing.
2) Janet Jackson
Janet was the first Jackson to speak out following his death at the BET Awards in 2009, she said: “He will forever live in all of our hearts,” before thanking the fans for their love and their support. She later performed their duet Scream at the MTV Awards in tribute to him.
During the Tribute To Michael Jackson concert, Beyonce doffed her trilby to MJ, calling him a “hero” and performing a cover of Jay-Z’s Forever Young. Beyonce and Jay-Z teamed up at Coachella to perform the track and Beyonce would play it near the end of her I Am…world tour with an image of MJ projected onto the stage.
4) Kanye West
Kanye has been known to make constant reference to MJ, most notably in Slow Jamz, Chain Heavy and All Of The Lights. Most recently on I Am A God from Yeezus, Kanye raps that he’s “the only rapper compared to Michael.
5) Mariah Carey
Mariah resurrected her Jackson 5 cover I’ll Be There (from 1992) during the Michael Jackson memorial in 2009. The performance was emotional and the diva was joined by Trey Lorenz.
