Joanna Lumley Confirms That There Will Be An Absolutely Fabulous Film

25 January 2013 by

The Absolutely Fabulous girls had a welcome return to the small screen last year but if that didn’t satiate your appetite for all things Eddy and Patsy then you’re in luck as Joanna Lumley has confirmed that its big screen incarnation is in the pipeline. Now that Jennifer Saunders has finished writing the Spice Girls inspired musical Viva Forever, she has a bit of time on her hands. Here’s what we know so far…

Jennifer Saunders is writing the script

‘We've talked about it, Jennifer's writing the film,’ Joanna Lumley told the Telegraph. ‘Although…the press were saying it's a musical now! But whatever it is, I'll be there.’

‘Au revoir sweetie. We’re off to France!’

When Jennifer Saunders was asked about the film last year, she told New York Magazine, ‘I’m definitely going to do it. I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring.’ Sounds delightful, daaaahling…

Eddy and Patsy will still be smoking…

Discussing the setting for the movie, Jennifer said ‘I thought, what are we missing these days? It’s that 1950s Cote d’Azur sense of easy glamour; Brigitte Bardot with her shoes off, strolling down the beach. People in sports carts with scares, smoking cigarettes.’

Will VB make an appearance?

There’s been no mention of which celebrities might cameo in the movie but as per the tv series, we’re reckon it’s a given (remember those star turns from Stella McCartney, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell?) Obviously, we’re hoping that one of the Spice Girls will return the favour to Jennifer after her work on Viva Forever and make an appearance. And by one, we mean Victoria Beckham of course. And if she wants to bring DB and the brood along for the ride, even better. We think Romeo’s Burberry look will translate ever so nicely on to the big screen…

Designer clobber, darlings

No fashion PR worth her Louboutins would be seen without her designer wares. In last year’s episodes, we saw lots of fab pieces from Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and The Kooples. Perhaps this time Eddy and Patsy will go all chic and carry a little Chloe or Balenciaga for the Riviera, non?
