WATCH Jennifer Lawrence's Mum And Dad Embarass Her At The SAGs PLUS Other Parents On The Red Carpet

30 January 2013 by

One of the perks of being a Hollywood A-lister is being able to take your parents along to glamorous show-biz events and show them that all those years working in Taco Bell and auditioning for daytime soap operas was actually worth it.

So at the weekend, Jennifer Lawrence took her folks along to the SAG Awards – where they proudly watched her pick up the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. In fact, Gary and Karen – or Gaz ‘n’ Kaz, as we like to call them – were so overwhelmed that, during a post-awards interview, they got a little emotional. "I just can't stop crying," said Karen, "I don't have anything to say because we'll embarrass her. We always do!" and promptly proceeded to start blubbing. Awkward.

Jennifer is not the first to bring her parents along to a red carpet event. Here’s what happens when you hit the red carpet with your folks...

1. Your mum borrows your girlfriend's clothes

As if we didn't love Ryan Gosling enough, he made us swoon when he took his mum along as his date for the Gangster Squad premiere. Not only that, but he got he hooked her up with a red carpet gown from his girlfriend. "I'm wearing Eva Mendes," Donna Gosling said. "She let me raid her closet."

2. People mistake your mum for your date

Oh look, its Justin Bieber and his new girlfriend. WHAT? YOU MEAN THAT NOT VERY OLD AT ALL LOOKING WOMAN IS ACTUALLY HIS MOTHER? Easy mistake to make. Mother Bieber - Pattie - is only 37 years old, and could pass for even younger.

3. Your mum comes when your girlfriend/wife can't be bothered

When Jessica Biel is too busy watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians to attend premieres, JT has another woman he turns to...his lovely ma. Lynn has been spotted several times on the red carpet - including at last year's Oscars. He does owe her one - it was momma Timberlake who came up with the name his old band, N*Sync.

4. Your mum gets over-excited at meeting royalty

If there's one benefit of having a famous daughter its that they can hook you up with celebs - and the ultimate has got to be Kate and Wills. So when J-Lo was invited to attend the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's BAFTA party in LA last year, she took her ma along. Awkwardly, Mrs Lopez had a little tumble just before she met Wills...but wouldn't we all?

5. You ruin your image as the tough man of hip hop

We're used to seeing pictures of Beyonce and her mum Tina Knowles, but its not often you get to see Mummy-Z. Which is a shame as Jay looks well cute hanging out with his mum Gloria at a fundraiser for the Shawn Carter Foundation.

6. Your mum gets drunk with A-listers

When Emma was nominated for a Golden Golden in 2011, she took along her mother, Krista, as her date. "We sat on a table next to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie," she said. "She never drinks but there was this giant bottle of Moet..she had a lot of champagne. She was talking to them about the kids. She was getting pretty loose." Go Krista.

7. Sometimes it's not the parents who are embarassing.

When you invite your folks to walk down the red carpet with you, there's always the fear they'll do something to show you up. But when Mr and Mrs Pitt attended the 2011 Oscars with Brad 'n' Angelina, it wasn't them being embarassing...but Ange. Or rather, Ange's right leg.
