Janelle Monae's Back - Here's 4 Reasons Why We Can't Wait For Her New Album!

Today Janelle Monae unveiled the latest single from her new album The Electric Lady, PrimeTime featuring resident 'Mr Smoothie duet partner' Miguel,  and it’s a corker. Frankly it makes us very excited to hear the album when it comes out on September 9th. Here's four reasons why we can't wait...

1) The Purple One

As well as Miguel and Erykah Badu (who sang on recent single Q.U.E.E.N), the album also features Big Boi and Cee-Lo Green. Prince also turns up on the album (presumably in a flurry of purple glitter). “We are great friends and he is a mentor to us, to me," she told Billboard "It’s a beautiful thing to have a friend- someone who cares about your career, and wants to see you go far and to push boundaries and shake up the world- give whatever that possibly can to the cause.” Get a room you guys!

2) Solange

We love that Janelle and Solange are BFFs. Just click above to see what happened when Janelle Monae turned up to dance with Solange in Atlanta during her performance of Losing You (clue: it involved people going a bit crazy). Solange rocks up to the mic on The Electric Lady title track to provide a great harmony vocal. Now that’s friendship…

3) It’s Feminist

If her debut The ArchAndroid was concerned with the escapades of her alter-ego Cindi Mayweather in The Future, The Electric Lady is more concerned with real life heroines. “The new album deals with a new breed of woman," she told Bust. "To give an example, I mean Michelle Obama or some of the women I met while performing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo in 2011 or Ellen DeGeneres. These are strong, bold women who are taking their stands and not being marginalized.”

4) The Cover Art Is Amazing

Sam Spratt illustrated the amazing cover art. We love the fact we get multiple Monae's (influenced by Qui Etes Vous Polly Maggoo). Also take a look at the special edition for US store Target too. Very ‘Donna Summer-y’ don’t you think?
