Cheryl Cole with her new hubby [Instagram]
Not since Beyoncé casually dropped her whole album onto the internet have we been so blindsided by a celebrity. Cheryl Cole is actually married – we still can’t believe it. Will she be known as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini from now on? How will the X Factor voiceover man cope with bellowing that out during the live shows? Did her bum tattoo act as a bouquet on the big day? So. Many. Questions. She's already ditched 'Cole' from her Twitter handle, changing the name to simply '@CherylOfficial'. And so it begins!
So while we try and re-configure our brain to accommodate this new information, let’s take a look at some other celebrity couples who have sprinted down the aisle...
1. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom
Khloe married basketball player Lamar exactly a month after they first met at a party for one of his team mates in 2009. The Kardashians have a habit of rushing their marital affairs – Kim was famously married to Kris Humphries for just 72 days. Khloe and Lamar fared better, but still filed for divorce last year. There’s a lesson in there somewhere, kids.
2. Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton
Ange and Bob tied the knot just two months after being introduced on the set of their film, Pushing Tin, in 2000. And that wasn’t the only unorthodox aspect of their wedding – they reportedly wore matching vials of each other's blood around their necks. And this was pre-Twilight.
3. Agyness Deyn and Giovanni Ribisi
Agyness shocked us all when she married Giovanni Ribisi (Phoebe’s brother in Friends, no less) just two months after he moved out of the home he shared with singer Cat Power in June 2012. But there rushed nuptials haven’t ended in tears yet – the happy couple are still very much together.
4. Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney
Frankly, if George Clooney asked us to marry him after a brief courtship, we wouldn’t think twice about saying yes either. So fair play to Amal Alamuddin, who got engaged to Hollywood’s most committed bachelor after just seven months of dating. And fair play to George, who got engaged to our number one girl crush.
5. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett
Julia and Lyle married in 2013, just three weeks after meeting. Guests were only given 72 hours notice to attend the marriage, which lasted just 21 months. The couple released a statement saying, ‘We remain close and in great support of each other’.
