Is Robert Pattinson Going To Play Christian Grey In The 50 Shades Of Grey Film? We Rate Him And The Other Contenders

Robert Pattinson

Brooding factor: Extremely high. To mis-quote Joey from Friends, R-Patz has been ‘smelling-the-fart -acting’ for his entire career and would be great in the title role.

Menacing factor: HE WAS A VAMPIRE! Ok, essentially a carin’ and sharin’ one who hadn’t eaten any humans for years, but still. It’s proof that he could pull off menacing pretty darn well.

Ryan Gosling

Brooding factor: Good. Well does a good ‘sulky face’ (see Blue Valentine, Place Beyond The Pines).

Menacing factor: Middling. Well admittedly [a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEgGWHtVIhQ" target="_blank">this[/a] was quite menacing, but maybe not in the right way.

Alex Pettyfer

Brooding factor: Having modelled for Burberry he does a good ‘staring-into-the-middle-distance- slash-pointing-at-things-quizzically’ face. Is this the same as ‘brooding’? Possibly….

Menacing factor: Quite low. Alex has the look of ‘the hard one in a boy band’ rather than ‘Christian Grey damaged’.

Matt Bomer

Brooding factor: With his Action Man-like looks it’s not a big surprise that his big breaks were on US soaps All My Children and Guiding Light. But would he be too cheesy to pull off the role of Christian Grey? We think maybe.

Menacing factor: Very low. Soz Matt

George Osborne

Brooding factor: Very high. If he could only channel his resentment about the economy into the perfect film role…

Menacing factor: Extremely high. Imagine getting started at with those vaguely robotic, swivelly eyes? Seriously, does this guy have an agent yet….? (um, I don’t think so- Ed)

What has ‘the Sam Taylor Wood’ factor done for the 50 Shades Of Grey film? Well if rumours about Robert Pattinson are to be believed, it has taken it back to square one.

The news that the artist and Nowhere Boy director is set to direct the franchise has led to more feverish speculation over who will play Christian Grey. The latest candidate is R-Patz who invited the author of the kinky books, E.L. James, to a A-list party this weekend.

Rob's most famous role was of course Edward in the Twilight films and Stephenie Meyers’ quartet of books were the original inspiration for E.L. James to write 50 Shades... Aside from this weird bit of symmetry, R-Patz seems like a good fit for the role, but how do the other candidates fare in the broody and menacing stakes?

Take a look through the gallery above and vote for your favourite Christian Grey-in-waiting...
