Just when we thought Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary had finally found happiness – fit husband, cute new baby – said husband only went and crashed his car and died. NO! That’s right, during the Christmas special, we saw the departure of dearly beloved cousin Matthew aka Dan Stevens. Currently starring on Broadway in The Heiress alongside Jessica Chastain, Mr Stevens felt that his time on the ITV smash hit show had come to an end and he left to pursue his career elsewhere.

But fear not, as news has reached Grazia Daily that a Mr Tom Ellis might be about to save the day as rumour has it, he’s set to play Lady Mary Crawley’s new love interest in season four. That’s right, most commonly known as object-of-much-lust Gary in Miranda, an ITV source told the Mirror, ‘we know that Tom’s got a lot of other options at the moment but if he does get the role it will be an incredible opportunity for him.’ They’re not wrong. Starring in a period drama does A LOT for a mans sex appeal. Weird, considering they usually wear bizarre clothes and often have well dodgy hair but its true.
