Grazia Joins Benedict Cumberbatch On The EE BAFTA Rising Star Award Jury

30 November 2012 by

Awards seasons are on their way, ladies! Ok, that doesn’t mean it’s time to don your ballgown but it does mean that over the next couple of months some of the hottest movies will be hitting your cinema screens. (Think Great Expectations, The Impossible and Les Miserables).

It also mean it’s that time of year again for Grazia to join the jury which will shortlist FIVE uber talented actors and actresses for the prestigious EE Rising Star Award which is voted for by YOU and will be presented to the winner at the EE British Academy Film Awards in February next year. Hurrah!

We’re not going to lie, it’s one of our favourite jobs and yesterday, our columnist Paul Flynn joined actor Benedict Cumberbatch, jury chair Pippa Harris (BAFTA’s film committee deputy chairman and Sam Mendes’ producing partner), film critic Mark Kermode and a whole host of entertainment journalists to produce the final shortlist.

Last year’s winner Adam Deacon took the title previously won by the likes of Kristen Stewart and Tom Hardy after facing stiff competition from nominees Chris O’Dowd, Eddie Redmayne, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

Paul and the jury might have thought they had a tough job narrowing down the selection put forward by BAFTA members and industry figures yesterday, but it’s your votes that decide the ultimate winner of this accolade. The final five will be announced on 7 January 2013 at BAFTA HQ when voting opens to the public at

The criteria? Well, the shortlist will be made up from young actors and actresses who have demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition and who have begun tocapture the imagination of the British public. In fact, it’s the only BAFTA that is voted for by the public so if you want to have your say and see your favourite soon-to-be A-lister take home what might be their first of many awards then stay tuned - we’ll be bringing you all the info you need to make your vote count.
