The star of the Fast & Furious franchise, Paul Walker passed away yesterday afternoon in a car crash in Valencia, California. As passenger in a friend’s Porsche, the 40 year old actor was returning from an event for his charity, Reach Our Worldwide in aid of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Both Walker and his friend were killed in the fatal smash after the car burst in to flames.

Walker played the beloved cop turned street racer Brian O’Conner in 5 out of the 6 Fast & Furious films and was an professional racing driver with a passion for supercars. He was due to reprise his role in Fast & Furious 7 which is currently filming and set for release next year.

The franchise has made the Californian native a globally recognised name but credits also include a steady of stream of films since the late 80s. From 90s cult favourites like Pleasantville and Varsity Blues to his starring turn in Into the Blue with Jessica Alba, Walker had a long and varied career. He also worked as a model with his chiselled good looks and impressive physique winning him campaigns for brands including Davidoff.

His co-stars and friends have already taken to social media channels to express their grief and disbelief at Walker’s passing. Actor Vin Diesel posted a shot of himself beside Walker on Instagram with the caption, ‘Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace’ while rapper Ludacris wrote, ‘Your humble spirit was felt from the start, wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark. We were like brothers & our birthdays are only 1 day apart, now You will forever hold a place in all of our hearts @paulwalker legacy will live on forever. R.I.P.
Walker leaves behind his 15 year old daughter Meadow and will be mourned by countless fans.
