Every now and then a music video comes along which causes a bit of a stir and gets everyone talking, and Justin Timberlake’s truly touching and beautiful Mirrors definitely fits that bill.
It tells a love story that spans six decades – that of his beloved grandparents, William and Sadie. All the more poignant because Justin’s grandfather Bill died last December. Justin, 32, who has always been close to his grandparents, recently said, ‘It’s definitely a special song for me.’
And in this week’s Grazia, the inspiration behind the video, Justin’s elderly grandmother Sadie Bomar, speaks for the first time. ‘It’s dedicated to me and Justin’s Papa, my late husband and it’s beautiful,’ she exclusively tells Grazia. ‘His grandfather passed away on 29 December. He wasn't that sick, he had a breathing problem. He just closed his eyes and went to sleep.’
Justin’s grandfather was so frail that he didn’t make it to his wedding to Jessica Biel in October. ‘Justin didn't tell me he was doing it [making the video], it was a surprise. He said, “You have to see this video, just you sit down and watch it". I was moved by it, it brings tears to my eyes. It's a lovely tribute to us.’
