Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes may have been dating for a year, but they aren't exactly the types for public red carpet smooching or romantic strolls in front of the paparazzi. At the Place Beyond the Pines premiere they are said to have arrived separately and kept their distance on the red carpet. But they did pose for one or two pictures together proving what we all suspected... they are the hottest couple on the planet.
But what is the norm red carpet etiquette for an on and off screen couple? Well we have looked through the archives to dig up red carpet shots of everyone from K Stew and R Patz to Brangelina to Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
The 'get a room' award goes to Sienna Miller and Jude Law at the premiere of Alfie as they couldn't keep their eyes off each other and Jude's hands kept wandering down to Sienna's, erm, derriere. The award for the most soppy red carpet lovebirds is a toss up between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth and Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. The Disney dream couples managed to rack up even more loving glances on the red carpet than there are in the WHOLE of High School Musical.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie promote Mr & Mrs Smith
From flashy smiles and PDAs over to post-scandal awkward-ness between R Patz and K Stew on the Twilight red carpet. You can't get much more awkward than the final Robsten promo tour, where Rob avoided eye contact with his co-star and fidgeted even more than usual. At the time Grazia Daily analysed their red carpet body language which transitioned from a dooey eyed love-in to a mega-awks cringe fest.
Speaking of public cheating scandals, at the premiere of Mr and Mrs Smith Brad and Ange each stuck to their own patch of the red carpet and managed to avoid being photographed together. Ryan and Eva aren't the only reluctant red carpet go-ers, as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds also walked the red carpet for Green Lantern separately, only posing for one or two snaps.
Some couples use their co-stars to deflect all the attention off them, as Carey Mulligan and Shia Labeouf used Mr Michael Douglas as a publicity blocker on their promo tour for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried used nearly the entire cast of Mamma Mia as attention blockers, as they stood at opposite ends of the line-up. Meryl Streep got even more red carpet cuddles from Amanda than Dominic did.
