Hollywood stars: Lupita Nyong'o and Scarlett Johansson [Getty]
We're seriously loving all these Disney remakes. The latest childhood animated favourite that's set to be made into a darker, adult-friendly version is reportedly The Jungle Book. And it gets even better: both Lupita Nyong'o AND Scarlett Johansson are rumoured to be taking center stage in the live-action/CGI hybrid adaptation. Our inner child is VERY happy right now.
The supremely swoonworthy Idris Elba has already signed on to play the part of man-eating tiger Shere Khan in director Jon Favreau's upcoming adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling tale, while rumours abound that most beautiful woman of the year Lupita would take on the role of Raksha, a mother wolf who adopts protagonist Mowgli, while Johansson would voice Kaa, a man-eating python who hypnotizes her prey.
The law of the jungle seems to apply just as well to Hollywood - Warner Brothers are reportedly also set to start filming a "darker and more truthful" version of Kipling's The Jungle Book. If it doesn't have Lupita and Scarlett involved, we're quite frankly just not as interested!
The Jungle Book is slated for an October 2015 release so 'till then we'll be satisfying our Disney fix with Maleficent - the Sleeping Beauty spin-off starring Angelina Jolie that's out next month. Oh, and singing along to this, of course...
