Ben Affleck Is The New Batman! But How Will He Compare To His Predecessors?

By: Allen Berezovsky WireImage

Twitter went crazy when the news that Ben Affleck would be the one to kick-ass alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel. Good idea or bad? Check out how he fares on our personal bat-o-meter…

1) Michael Keaton

Zipping through Tim Burton’s gothic Batman, the one-time-Mr-Courteney Cox was a witty Batman, a perfect bridge between the campy 60s Batman and what was to come next....

Bat-O-Meter: 8

2) George Clooney

Poor Clooney! He starred in the Joel Schumacher clunker Batman & Robin. As The Man In Black (With A Silly Mask. And A Cape) his performance was actually ok, although the famous Clooney acting technique- moving your eyebrows around a lot - was hidden behind bigger, brighter performances from the likes of Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy.

Bat-O-Meter: 5

3) Christian Bale

Playing the fallen Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale was perfect in Christopher Nolan gloomy and apocalyptic films The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Our favourite batman man? Almost definitely.

Bat-O-Meter: 9

4) Ben Affleck

Some have pointed out that Ben’s last superhero outing 2003’s Daredevil was rather underwhelming. What do you think? (watch out for scary bald Colin Farrell!)

From all the signs, Zack Snyder’s take on the franchise will be a lot more light-hearted than Christopher Nolan’s was. But how will Affleck fare? He's arguably a better director than actor, so perhaps he can hide behind Snyder’s inevitably swanky CGI and 3-D styles?

Bat-O-Meter: An Optimistic 7

Katie Cox (Fri Aug 23 15:59:31 BST 2013): Grazia please check your facts! Even a passing Batman spectator will know Val Kilmer played the eponymous hero in Batman Forever and gorgeous George played the role only once. This deserves a tut. Tut tut tut.
