BAFTA Awards 2013: Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard & Jennifer Lawrence Bag Nominations

09 January 2013 by

Excitement! The nominations for the BAFTA Awards 2012 have just been announced by Jeremy Irvine and Alice Eve - and it's US film Lincoln that's scooped the most noms. Steven Spielberg's presidential biopic got no less than 10 nominations, including Best Film and Leading Actor for Daniel Day Lewis. Big British films Les Miserables and Skyfall also got nods while Ang Lee's Life of Pi came away with nine nominations (three of which weren't technical).

BAFTA Awards 2013: Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard & Jennifer Lawrence Nominated For Leading Actress

Javier Bardem is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Bond villain Silva in Skyfall, which is nominated for Outstanding British film. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway are both in the running for an award thanks their stirring performances as Jean Valjean and Fantine in Les Mis. As for The Hobbit, Peter Jackson's epic hasn't been nominated in any of the main categories. Ouch. It did receive nominations in Make-up and Hair, Visual Effects and Sound, but this is a far cry from Fellowship Of The Ring, which scored a whooping 12 nominations.

Here's hoping the Hollywood ladies nominated for the Leading Actress gong - Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Helen Mirren and Emmanuelle Riva - will pull on their glad rags for the ceremony that takes place on Sunday 10 February at the Royal Opera House. Either way, this gives us a taster of what's to come when the Oscar nominations are revealed tomorrow.
