Update: You know that Beyonce documentary we’re all super excited about? Well, she’s just released a teaser clip. And proving she’s as normal as us (well, sort of) she talks about being scared to reveal too much about herself. We see her on stage, a home-movie from her childhood, hugging husband Jay-Z, a mobile phone video of her baby bump while her voiceover says, ‘I always battle with how much do I reveal about myself. If I’m scared, be scared. Allow it.’
If this teaser is anything to go by, she’s allowed it all right. And we can’t wait to see just what else is in store for the self-directed debut documentary…
27 November 2012: Beyonce's HBO Documentary
Holy halo – Beyonce is making a documentary about, wait for it, herself. Queen B, lifting the lid on her very own life – pass the remote!
Lucky viewers in the US will be able to tune in to HBO, home of some of Beyonce’s favourite shows (she must be watching Girls, right?!) on 16th February to see the stars home movies, clips from her concerts and home life with hubby Jay-Z and baby Blue Ivy.’This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home,’ she said.
And it seems like the crew over at HBO are pretty happy about their latest acquisition too. ‘Everybody knows Beyonce's music, but few know Beyonce the person,’ said Michael Lombardo, HBO’s Programming President. ‘Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce on stage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.’
It seems that Beyonce has been building up to her feature-length directorial debut for some time now. She’s successfully navigated the transition into acting as we reported yesterday after a cameo appearance in Austin Powers in Goldmember before taking the lead role in Dreamgirls. She got a little bit of practise directing the music video for her hit single Ego and in preparation for worldwide scrutiny, she launched her Tumblr blog earlier this year (we’re as addicted to that as we are to Rihanna’s Instagram!).
Of course, Bey follows in the footsteps of David Bowie and Madonna who’ve both branched out into directing although fingers crossed Beyonce’s doc will fare slightly more favourably than Madonna’s film W.E. which was widely criticised. But we’re not worried. Hot on the heels of her superbowl appearance on 3 February, she is going to be super-hot property and this is sure to be must-watch viewing.
