From a princess to a prostitute, it’s fair to say the last decade has been pretty busy for Anne Hathaway. She’s spent the last few weeks at every awards do under the sun scooping up accolades for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, the SAG awards, the BAFTAs and the Oscars for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables to name a few (so far, she’s totalled over 40!).
But like most of the Hollywood elite, Anne started her career in a commercial. And yes, we have managed to track it down. Aren’t we clever? Despite being based in LA, in the mid-late nineties, apparently Anne was flown over to Ohio to shoot the advert for Cincinnati Bell Telephone as they wanted a fresh face. It seems the local residents were already overly familiar with the regular cast of their infomercials.
Little did she know that this would be the start of an illustrious, award-winning career. And while we’re on the subject, let’s take a look at some of her highlights so far…
The 1999 comedy drama starring Anne Hathaway as Jesse Eisenberg’s older sister. Short-lived but she references Dawson Creek in the first five minutes of the pilot episode which makes us feel kinda old.
2. The Princess Diaries – 2001
Part Miss Congeniality, part Pretty Woman (minus the whole prostitution bit), Anne plays Mia, an average high school student with unruly hair who finds out she’s actually a real-life princess. We’re pretty sure Kate Middleton owns multiple copies of this movie.
3. Brokeback Mountain – 2005
She’s a smokin’ hot blonde rodeo rider with a west country drawl married to Jack, who is battling with his feelings towards his friend Ennis. This was Anne’s first taste of the Oscars as the film had eight Academy Award nominations eventually losing out to Crash in the best picture category.
4. The Devil Wears Prada – 2006
This was a big moment for Anne who got to star alongside her idol Meryl Streep. She also got to wear some really amazing clothes, go to Paris and kiss a couple of very hot men. Jealous much…
5. Rachel Getting Married – 2008
Anne was nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role as Kym, sister to the Rachel of the film’s title who funnily enough, is getting married. Kym’s drug addiction threatens to ruin the big day as she struggles to come to terms with the actions of her past.
6. Bride Wars – 2009
Getting to wear a massive wedding dress then having a huge catfight with Kate Hudson has got to be a career highlight for anyone, right?!
7. Hosting the Oscars – 2011
Both Anne and James Franco met with very mixed reviews but hey, she got asked to host the Oscars soooooo, you can’t win them all.
8. One Day – 2011
We’re not going to lie, One Day is one of our favourite books so we were extremely nervous about the big screen adaptation. Anne’s Yorkshire accent was questionable at times but she definitely brought guts and emotion to the role of Emma.
9. The Dark Knight Rises – 2012
Anne gets stealthy and slinky with Batman in The Dark Knight Rises but make no mistake, she ain’t no pussycat. Miaow!
10. Les Miserables – 2013
It’s easy to see why Anne was a shoe-in for Best Supporting Actress this awards season. Top marks alone for losing her hair live on-screen but this breath-taking performance has left Subo quaking in her boots.
