Finally, American Idol is back on our screens! Gone are J-Lo and Steven Tyler, in their place are Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey and we cannot wait to see the new judging panel in action when the new series kicks off on Thursday on 5*. Admittedly, things haven't haven't exactly got off to a flying start between the two divas with a massive feud between Nicki and Mariah overshadowing filming. So far it's involved stunt doubles, sex tapes, Twitter and the President of the United States - as you do. Here's how it happened...
1. Things Weren't Looking Good From The Beginning
B. Scott, Mariah's stunt double (what?), got tongues wagging that things were far from fine before the two ever signed up to board the good ship American Idol. Scott reportedly told TMZ that on the set of their 2010 video for Up Out Of My Face, "Nicki was making faces at her (Mariah) laced with rude comments under her breath."
2. Mariah Was Not Happy
According to TMZ (those guys again), Mariah is reported to have hung up the phone when she was told Nicki was going to join American Idol. According to Mariah's spokesperson however, that was nonsense. She claimed, "Mariah is too much of a lady to do such a thing."
3. Everything Kicks Off. And Get's Caught On Tape
Trust us. You do NOT want to be caught in the crossfire when Nicki and Mariah get going. Just take a look at this video from the set of American Idol for proof. Some of our favourite lines?
Nicki: Off with your head, off with your head... I’m not sitting here for 20 minutes and having you run down your resume everyday, No! Goodbye!
Mariah: Listen, I can’t see my kids because you decided...to have... to have a little baby fit and going all around the stage.
Nicki: Good, well then go see them now, go see them now ... you’re boring as f**k, you’re boring as f**k.
4. Barbara Walters From The View Gets Involved
Oh Barbs. Probably not best to wade into what's hotting up to be the biggest diva-off in yonks. According to what Mariah told her, several members of the American Idol crew heard Nicki say, "If I had a gun I would shoot the b****." As a result, Mimi claimed to have stepped up her security.
5. Nicki Talks About Herself In The Third Person On Twitter
It turns out Nicki was NOT happy about Barbs taking Mariah's side. She claimed to her Twitter army that Mariah was jealous becaase, "Nicki is the best judge since Simon (Cowell)."
6. Stevie Nicks Wades In
Enter Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks. Clearly unhappy with Nicki's reaction to Mariah, she told The Daily, "How dare this little girl!... If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it." Eeks! She later apologised.
7. Obama Tries Some Good Old Fashioned Diplomacy
Finally! A voice of reason. In an interview with Y100 Radio in Miami, Nobel Peace Prize winner and president of the most powerful country in the world, Barack Obama, assauged tensions on all sides claiming, "I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident... I'm all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they're moving forward and not going backwards."
8. They Made Up! By Watching Nicki's Sex Tape
At a press conference last week, the two divas claimed to have put their differences aside. When asked how, Nicki claimed "I put on my sex tape." Whatever floats your boat ladies. Roll on the live shows.
