A Female Dr. Who Could Become A Reality - But WHO Should It Be?

Dr Who is ready for his next regeneration with the news that Matt Smith is hanging up his bow tie up for good. In a statement the floppy haired one said: "It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the Tardis for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys." No, thank you Matt.

Still before we had time to blub into our Dalek lunchbox, the news hit us that show boss Steven Moffat has hinted that the next Dr could be a woman. “It is part of Time Lord lore that it can happen. Who knows, the more often it is talked about the more likely it is to happen some day,” he said. But which lucky actress could nab the role?

1. Helen Mirren has expressed a preference saying: "I would like to play the new female Doctor Who. I don't want to be just his sidekick."

2. Olivia Colman meanwhile has already got close to a former Doctor David Tennant in Broadchuch. Naomi Alderman in The Guardian said that she would bring “a vulnerability combined with seriousness”. We totally agree.

3. Meanwhile Sue Perkins admits she is “beyond flattered” to be in the running.
