Oh Justin. After a couple of toe-tappingly awesome singles and the release of his brand new album, Mr JT is firmly back into our hearts and lives. It’s not like he went anywhere although his presence in the charts was missed while he took his musical hiatus to make films and get married and stuff. Now he’s back to his old tricks making cool videos to accompany said new tunes and we love what he’s done for Mirrors…
1. He’s a family man
The video is dedicated ‘For William and Sadie’, Justin’s grandparents who were married for 63 years before William sadly passed away last year. The video shows a couple on a journey through time from courting in the 50’s to their retirement years in the present day. It’s very touching.
2. He got David Bowie’s mate to direct it
That’s right, if you’ve been paying any attention recently you’ll remember that Floria Sigismondi directed David Bowie’s latest music video which starred Tilda Swinton and Andrej Pejic. Continuing with her eclectic themes, Justin got her on board to direct Mirrors. It’s nowhere near as abstract as Bowie’s but we’re digging the videos subjects glimpsing their past and future selves.
3. It’s over eight minutes long
It might seem daunting but believe us, the time will fly by. And it’s definitely a sign of things to come. Justin has already confirmed the rumours surrounding his album The 20/20 Experience saying, ‘This whole thing about this only being the first part... is true. There is another half. I'm not giving you a release date.’ With a large portion of his current album tracks coming in at the eight minute mark, we’ll be blocking out a serious chunk of time for part two.
4. He likes Louboutins too
Once again confirming that not only does he have impeccable taste, he’s also a man after our own heart. Justin appears in the video towards the end and while he’s dancing around and in between a set of fairground, wait for it, mirrors (!!) he’s also sporting a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. Nice. The black shoes with silver toe caps are called Gareth, appaz.
5. He looks FIT
We can’t deny it and we know he’s a married man but Justin still looks hot. In fact, our only criticism of this video is that there’s not enough of him in it. He cuts a dashing figure in a suave black turtleneck jumper and coat, his hair is slicked back and his moves are graceful and elegant set against the poignant heartfelt lyrics. But if this is the grown-up, settled down Trousersnake then we like it. A lot.
