5 Things We Learned From The Pharrell Album

Pharrell’s set to release his first solo album since 2006, so hurrah! Here is five things we discovered when we got the chance to listen to 'GIRL'…

1) He’s Loved Up

On his new album Pharrell is in love with love, clearly he’s still in the honeymoon period with his new wife Helen Lasichanh. On opener Marilyn Monroe he sings: “This goes out to all the lovers,” while on Lost Queen he trills: “I used to be a player.” Aw, bless.

2) He’s Getting Lucky Again

After last year’s team up with Daft Punk, Get Lucky, which basically ate the universe, he’s teamed up with the French robots again on Gust Of Wind which sounds like Get Lucky Part 2 which can only be a good thing.

3) He’s Gone Old School With Alicia

One of the highlights of the album is You Know Who You Are, his duet with Alicia Keys. It reminds us of The Neptunes early noughties production work, which can only be a good thing.

4) He’s Still A Little Bit Baked

The appropriately titled FREQ finds Pharrell in an altered state of mind. The trippy track featuring orchestration from Hans Zimmer sees him spouting new age philosophies like “I’d rather be a freak, individuality makes life matter.” And “you’ve got to go inward to experience the outer space.” Calm down, Shirley MacLaine.

5) Miley Makes A Nice Appearance

After helping out on Bangerz, Miley turns up to sing backing vocals on Come Get It. The track features hand claps and a call and response funky um banger…It’s one of our highlights. And also feels spookily similar to Miley and Pharrell’s Get It Right.
