5 Things To Look Out For At President Obama’s Inauguration

21 January 2013 by

Yesterday, Obama was sworn in for another four years as President of the United States. And tonight, he celebrates with a massive party (and on a Monday night, too…what a rebel).

The celebrations kick off this afternoon with his much anticipated inauguration speech – before the President and his guests put on their glad rags for The Commander in Chief's Inaugural Ball

Here’s what to look out for.

1. Michelle’s dress

Four years ago, Michelle Obama wowed in a single shouldered white Jason Wu gown, and speculation is rife over what she will wear tonight, with nearly 20 designers reported to have sent possible outfits. She’ll be teaming it with her new hair-do – which her husband declared yesterday he was a fan of. “I love Michelle Obama. And to address the most significant event of this weekend: I love her bangs.” Aww.

2. Beyonce!

Last time, she sang a blub inducing version of Etta James’ At Last while the President and his wife had their first dance at the inauguration ball. This time, she’s singing the national anthem after he’s publically sworn in. She’s been busy practising – posting pictures of herself rehearsing on instagram over the weekend.

3. Kelly Clarkson

The line-up for the inauguration ball is looking a little bit like The Grammys. James Taylor, John Legend and Stevie Wonder are all set to perform, and Kelly Clarkson is due to sing My Country ‘Tis of Thee. "I think its going to be the coolest thing ever to look back with my grandkids and go 'I was part of that.'"

4. Obama’s hot speechwriter

800,000 people are expected to cram onto the streets of Washington this afternoon to hear Obama’s inauguration speech. No pressure then. The man with the mighty task of writing it is Jon Favreau.  No, not the director of cult film Swingers, but a 31-year old Justin Timberlake lookalike who used to go out with Rashida Jones.

5. Lady Gaga

On Tuesday night, the people that helped Obama get into power get their thank you – at a special ball thrown in their honour. Last time, Jay Z and Arcade Fire played the event. This time, the top secret headliner is believed to be Lady Gaga. Now that’s how to do an office party.
