4 Things You Need To Look Out For At Sundance Film Festival 2013

17 January 2013 by

Right in the middle of awards season, sandwiched between the Golden Globes and the Oscars is Sundance Film Festival. Held in the Park City, Utah, it’s a great place to discover which films and which actors we’ll be loving in the year to come. As it’ll undoubtedly be snowing (just like here we hope), it’s also a good opportunity to check out the celebs in attendance modelling their depths-of-winter fashion. We’ve trawled through this year’s offerings to bring you the highlights…

1. Premiere of Before Midnight

We’re noticing a bit of a pattern here. First, Celine and Jesse met on a train bound for Vienna eighteen years ago in Before Sunrise. Then nine years later, we thought they sailed off into the sunset in er, Before Sunset. If our nine times tables serve us correctly we’re due another installment. Bingo! Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are back with Before Midnight, this time, in their forties and in Greece. The film premieres at Sundance. Third time lucky? We sure hope so…

2. First Viewing of Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

If you’ve seen the pics, you’d be forgiven for thinking That Seventies Show is making a comeback. It’s not. But Ashton Kutcher is going back in time to the land of man bangs and tweed trousers as he’s playing the role of Apple co-founder Steve in the biographical film jOBS.

3. Amanda Seyfried is in a porno!

She did a fab job as butter-wouldn’t-melt grown-up Cosette in Les Miserables but Amanda Seyfried is starring in the biopic of porn star Linda ‘Deep Throat’ Lovelace imaginatively titled Lovelace. Expect some creative camera work – this isn’t actually a porno afterall but , tells the story behind the first adult movie to make it in to the mainstream. Sharon Stone, Peter Sarsgaard and James Franco also star.

4. Things get political

Sundance is a great place for those with political inclinations to get their voices heard and their movies seen. In the running this year are is ‘99% - The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film’ which tells the unreported story of life on the inside of the year old movement. Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer looks at the Russian punksters causing, well, a riot and We Steal Secrets about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
