#PlayTime: The Kooks Come Over All R&B With New Single 'Down'

In a bit of a work slump right now? Welcome to #PlayTime, Grazia Daily's new music feature bringing you a different hot track every day of the week. From just-dropped music premieres to cool covers and throwback classics, its the new soundtrack to your afternoon.

The Kooks have released a new single - and the band who you'll probably know for their melodic indie sound - are having a bit of an R&B moment... sorta.

The band's latest track 'Down' previewed on Radio 1 last night as Zane Lowe's Hottest Track In The World. Written by frontman (and one of the indie hearthrobs of our teenage years) Luke Pritchard, it's produced by hip-hop artist Inflo.

'Down' is sexy, fun and the main lyric 'down, down diggity' gets seriously stuck in your head.

'With this record we didn't do any rehearsing beforehand,' Pritchard said. 'I'd write a song with Inflo or on my own, put it up and we'd all play over it. There was a real freedom to the process.'

It's a bit of a change from The Kooks earlier tracks, which include sing-songy mega-hit 'She Moves In Her Own Way' - the anthem of indie discos in 2006.

Which do you prefer - the new release or the older anthems?
