#PlayTime: An Exclusive From The Pierces - The Folk Lorde Cover You Need To Hear

23 April 2014 by

In a bit of a work slump right now? Welcome to #PlayTime, Grazia Daily's new music feature bringing you a different hot track every day of the week. From just-dropped music premieres to cool covers and throwback classics, its the new soundtrack to your afternoon.

We love a bit of cutesy folk-pop in the afternoon, especially when it comes in the form of a Lorde cover. Sister duo The Pierces have recorded a cover of the singer's track 'Team' and it's dreamy.

With sweet-as-candy vocals and delicate harmonies, Allison and Catherine Pierce take on the mega hit is pretty, melodic and totally adorable. They're *so* on each other's team.

Now living in LA, Allison and Catherine are returning to the UK in June to play a few gigs around the country and release new album 'Creation' (June 2). You'll be able to check them out in London, Manchester and Glasgow. We talked to the duo about their style inspiration and why they chose to cover Lorde.
Grazia Daily: Why did you decide to cover Lorde?

The Pierces: We like her, we like the song and she's a babe...literally and metaphorically.

Grazia Daily: Describe your sound in three words

The Pierces: Entrancing. Harmonious. Mellifluous.

Grazia Daily: First song you fell in love with?

The Pierces: Our parents were Beatles fanatics so they were the soundtrack of our youth. I think the song that moved me most was "Girl". The melody is so sad and beautiful and I loved the idea of this girl having such a powerful hold on a man.

Grazia Daily: First gig you ever went to?

The Pierces: I went to see Tori Amos because I was madly in love with her and her songs spoke to my teenage heart.

Grazia Daily: What's the best thing about being in a band?

The Pierces: It sounds cool when you write it down as your occupation on forms. Airport Customs Officials are always impressed.

Grazia Daily: Who inspires your style?

The Pierces: We are inspired by women that seem at ease in their skin. I love it when people are stylish but still look comfortable. You don't look or feel good if you are teetering around in sky high heels and a skirt that is too tight. We love these ladies and have been inspired by their sense of style: Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot, Debbie Harry, Kate Moss, Stevie Nicks, and Alexa Chung to name a few.
