Oh, MTV – they do know how to throw a good bash, don't they? And last night's European Music Awards were no exception. Think a circus themed spectacle minus the clowns with fire breathers and people twirling above the stage in hoops and then floating on stage by balloon.
Proving to be the hostess with the mostess, Heidi Klum adhered to the two cardinal rules of awards hosting – multiple outfit changes and sending herself up in a comedy skit. Not only did she manage to rock an astonishing EIGHT Versace gowns throughout the night, she also threw on a powder blue tux and joined Best Video winner PSY for a hilarious rendition of Gangnam Style.
It was a great night for Brit boys One Direction who took home two gongs, Best New Act and unsurprisingly, the award for Biggest Fans. Seeing as they couldn't make the ceremony in person but showing that global stardom hasn’t impacted on their manners, Harry took to Twitter saying, ‘Thank you to our Incredible fans!! We won 'Best New' and 'Biggest Fans' at the EMAs, the last one speaks for itself.. Thank you so much xx’
Also flying the Brit flag was Rita Ora who wowed in a red Marchesa gown but sensibly, she opted for a red lace suit and pumps to open the show with her hit R.I.P which saw her lowered onto the stage in a birdcage. Perhaps her boyfriend’s sister Kim Kardashian should have paid more attention to her stage ensemble as she took a little stumble on her heels when she later presented the award to Carly Rae Jepson for Best Song, Call Me Maybe. Oops. The Canadian singer who also performed, scooped up the award for Best Push – well, we were singing her tune all summer long!
Triple winner Taylor Swift closed the show in a circus spectacular after a busy night accepting the awards for Best Female, Best Live and Best Look. With performances from Alicia Keys, Muse and The Killers plus a surprise appearance from German favourite The Hoff, music’s biggest stars sure had a top night…
