A quaffed blonde bob, sharp tailoring and a slick of eyeliner flicked at the corners. Yep, these are Hitchcocks girls alright but take a closer look and you might be surprised to see Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel. Newly released from the set of the movie Hitchcock out next February, these snaps show the two Hollywood starlets taking on the roles of Janet Leigh and Vera Miles.
They played the lead roles in one his most iconic films Psycho and its his relationship with his wife while making it that is the subject of the movie starring Scarlett and Jessica. It’s controversial not least because Alfred was rather obsessed with blondes while his own wife was a red-head. In fact, one actress claimed that he made her wear a blonde wig for the role, even styling the curls himself!
Janet Leigh and Vera Miles were not the only two actresses to nab leading roles in Hitchcock’s movies. Grace Kelly and Ingrid Bergman also appeared, each in three of his films, each adopting the same style. But undoubtedly his greatest obsession and perhaps the most famed of his leading ladies is Tippi Hedren. The actress was forced to endure all manner of extremes during filming including at one point being attacked by live birds and which is documented in the BBC drama The Girl starring Sienna Miller on BBC 2 later this year.
To say Hitchcock had a type would be an understatement. But do you think Scarlett and Jessica pull off the ice blonde look?
