You might have guessed – we’re partial to a bit of a fashion show here at Grazia HQ. What do we love more? A fashion show with heart – and Agent Provocateur’s show with Lingerie London (co-hosted with Atsuko Kudo and the Seven Bar Foundation) has definitely got that. Along with a large dose of glamour, sex and, err, wine. What’s not to love?
It’s set to be Agent Provocateur’s first runway show for five years – and Sarah Shotton, their creative designer, told us it’s definitely one for the diary during an exclusive chat with Grazia. ‘As soon as we heard about the show, I knew we had to do it,’ Sarah says. ‘We’re approached by so many charities and great causes to collaborate – but this is the one that just seemed to fit with us.’
The show will raise much needed funds for the Seven Bar Foundation, a company which aims to bring a sustainable solution to poverty by empowering women all over the world through microfinance. ‘At Agent Provocateur we’re all about empowering women and making them feel stronger,’ Sarah continued. ‘That’s exactly what this foundation is about. It’s helping deprived women feel stronger – women right across the UK. It’s a brilliant idea.’
The event, which will be held in Old Billingsgate, East London, on October 24th, follows Lingerie Miami, in 2009, and Lingerie New York, in 2010, which were both huge success stories. Renata Mutis Black, Seven Bar’s founder, says that giving women a helping hand up the ladder is a far more positive way of giving back to women who need it most. ‘We believe in giving underprivileged women a break,’ she says. ‘In micro-finance, women are accountable for the loan and repayment; they feel empowered and often are, for the first time, part of a credit rating — validating them in business.’
Sarah has been designing for Agent Provocateur for more than 14 years – and, I think we can all agree, produces exquisite lingerie every season. But where does she get her inspiration from? ‘There are just so many women that inspire me. I love Monica Belluchi, models like Daisy Lowe who I think are amazing… But then, a couple of years ago I did collection inspired by Margaret Thatcher – so you never know what might catch your eye!’
So what can we expect from this fashion show? ‘Without giving too much away, it’s going to be very glam – but slightly inspired by Cathy from Wuthering Heights. And as you’d expect it won’t be like a normal catwalk show – though, I’ve heard on the down low that the models are set to be pretty impressive…’
Sounds just about perfect to us. See you there!
