We think four years is quite a long time to take a holiday from work but you know what Solange Knowles, we’ll forgive you because your new single is freakin’ awesome. Back after a bit of a break from the music scene (she’s had other important fash-wan things to be concentrating on like, er, launching House of Dereon with Lady B) her third studio album is set for release early next year.
Preceding it is the single Losing You which as well as being a major choooon also has one of the coolest videos we’ve ever laid our eyes on. Set in the streets of Cape Town, South Africa, it shows Solange and loads of her mates parading up and down in a number of super stylish outfits, larking about and generally having a really fun time.
The uber colourful video was styled by Solange herself and sister Beyonce’s stylist Ty Hunter. It’s practically a mini fashion week condensed into four minutes with looks from big name designers such as Kenzo, Diane von Furstenberg, J Crew, Opening Ceremony and vintage Moschino. Hotness.
But what inspired her to make such a unique and fun video in the first place? ‘When Melina [the video’s director] and I decided to film Losing You in South Africa, we really didn't have a real firm concept in place. It was sort of a grab a camera and let's go moment,’ she told Pitchfork. ‘I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we've gotten ourselves into all over the world, and the abstract and elegant Le Sape Society. We called [Italian photographer] Daniele to guide us, and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time.’
It sure looks like it too. In fact, Solange – next time, can we be in your gang too please??
