Natalie Portman To Play Jackie Kennedy In New Film: How Will She Compare To Katie Holmes?

Just like Katie Holmes and Sarah Michelle Gellar before her, Natalie Portman is in talks to star as Jackie Kennedy in a new film. Exciting eh? Grazia Daily is, of course, ridiculously excited at the prospect of the Oscar winning actress trussed up in those fabulous outfits.

Jackie O's ladylike wardrobe consisted of simple shapes – shifts, A-line maxis, neat skirt suits – in a very-Sixties palette of feminine pinks and peaches all topped off with those signature oh-so proper accessories – hats, gloves, snap-shut handbags, and pearls, plus pre-Wintour giant sunglasses.

It’s said that the new film will focus on Jackie’s life following the assassination of her husband President John F Kennedy. Undoubtedly one of the biggest stories in American political history, JFK was shot dead by Lee Harvey Oswald as he drove through Texas in November 1963 – Jackie was by his side.

According to reports, the film was originally going to be directed by Darren Aronofsky and was set to star Rachel Weisz – whom he was previously in a relationship with. However, when the pair broke up in 2010, the plans were put on hold. Let’s be honest, it would have been pretty awkward... Besides, Aronofsky worked with Natalie on Black Swan and we all know how well that turned out.

So how will NP handle being the ultimate First Lady? In the past, we've seen Katie Holmes transform from jeans queen into the sleek sophisticate for TV mini-series The Kennedys, Joanne Whalley sported that trademark Bouvier bouffant bob in 2000 show Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and let's not forget Sarah ‘Buffy’ Michelle Gellar playing a teenage Jackie back in 1991. But our favourite Jackie of recent years was Jeanne Tripplehorn who put in a faultless portrayal of Mrs O in the remake of cult fashion documentary Grey Gardens about Jackie’s eccentric reclusive relatives Big Edie and Little Edie.
