How Refreshing! Salma Hayek Is Happy Not To Be A 'Skinny Girl'

27 September 2012 by

It seems that Salma Hayek would be one of the last people to agree with Kate Moss’s infamous statement, “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”

“I'm not a skinny girl," admits the actress in the October issue of More. "Everybody has a weakness – mine is food." Salma, who lives in France with her billionaire husband François-Henri Pinault and 5-year old daughter Valentina, went on to say, “If you love food and you love red wine and they put you in France, you're in a good place and you’re in a bad place at the same time." We hear that sister.

While Salma is happy to indulge, she's sure to stay healthy: "You have to weigh yourself every day” she advises. “And you have to have an alarm number. When you get to that number, you have to start putting it in reverse.” She certainly seems to have her priorities straight: “I'm at the limit of chubbiness at all times. But I'm happy at all times." Sounds good, no?

Here at Grazia, we're championing Salma for being so up-front about her figure. Her admission that she's not skinny but still *gasp* happy comes at a time when female celebrities are under more pressure than ever to be 'thinspirational'. Just like Salma, more and more famous women are keen to show that they are ‘real’ rather than the ‘perfect’ archetypes of femininity that many expect them to be. Lady Gaga posting photos of herself in her underwear following a recent weight gain is a case in point.

If anyone ever needed proof that you don’t have to be model-thin to be beautiful (and let’s face it, some people do need proof), then Salma would be a clincher. The 46-year-old has never conformed to the skinny demands of Hollywood, choosing instead to flaunt her own brand of voluptuous beauty.
