Downton Abbey: The Best Spin-offs

27 September 2012 by

If you can’t wait until Sunday night for your next fix of crockery-related drama (“Mrs Hughes, there don’t seem to be any glasses laid for the pudding wine!”), Carson’s eyebrow’s doing overtime and Lord Grantham getting in a right old tizzy about the family finances, then check out these brilliant Downton Abbey spin-offs.

In The Boyfriend’s Guide to Downton Abbey, a cynical boyfriend provides commentary over every episode from series’ one and two – we particularly enjoy his conclusion that Edith and Daisy are the show’s answer to Megan from Family Guy. Then there’s Sh!t the Dowager Countess Says, a compilation of Maggie Smith’s character’s best quotes, including: “What is a weekend?” and “No one wants to kiss a girl in black.” US comedian and TV host Jimmy Fallon’s parody Downton Sixbey is also hilarious. On Twitter, Lady Mary’s eyebrows have their own account – Carson’s brows have one too but disappointingly, they haven’t tweeted since February. They’re probably too busy furrowing over some sort of cutlery-induced misdemeanour.

But by far our favourite is Dollshouse Downton. It’s a brilliant series of YouTube videos created by London schoolgirls Grace Venning and Tanvi Punatar. The setting is a massive dolls’ house made by Grace’s father and the girls voice the characters (complete with endearingly dodgy accents) using Sylvanian Families figurines and other animals - Daisy is a hedgehog, the Dowager Countess is a duck and Mrs O’Brien is a weasly-looking otter - to re-enact the show.
