The Most Famous Jumper On Television? The Killing Returns, And So Does Sara Lund’s Trademark Knit

Sofie Gråbøl as Sara Lund

Wondering how you’ve survived this long without your favourite TV thriller, The Killing? Fear no more, as series three is coming to your screens in November, jumper included.

Publicity shots of the eagerly awaited third and final series of the hit Danish drama were released yesterday, showing star Sofie Gråbøl, cross-armed, looking stern and wearing her trademark chunky knit jumper and messy ponytail.

BBC4’s cult drama, starring Gråbøl as brilliant kick-ass Danish detective, Sara Lund, is one of the channel’s most popular shows ever, and has spurred a run of similar dramas – The Bridge, Borgen and even a US version of The Killing.

In the wake of the show’s enormous popularity, and Sara Lund often sporting her chunky Nordic jumper, last winter sales of patterned knitwear soared, making her unwittingly a trend-setter and fashion superstar.

No one could have predicted the success of Sara’s attire, least of all actress Gråbøl. ‘I felt it was so strong it was almost wearing me,’ she said.

The latest jumper is navy with a white pattern, the same design as the original but with different colours (the original was white with a darker pattern). It makes it's cameo in episode 4 of the new series.

As in the previous two series, the jumper has been made by Gudren & Gudrun. They will go on sale once the series has aired and are expected to be sold for around €280 (£226). No doubt you’ll be able to pick up an equally snazzy one on the British high street, too.

The final series of The Killing will be broadcast on BBC4 in November
