Annie, the family-fave Sunday afternoon flick about the spritely red-headed orphan who brings down the evil Miss Hannigan and finds a new dad, is in the process of getting a serious makeover.
The new version, tipped for release in 2013, as well as starring Willow Smith, is being scripted by actress Emma Thompson (Love Actually, Nanny McPhee) and soundtracked by none other than hip hop royalty Jay-Z. The clever clogs among you might remember that Jay sampled the original Annie soundtrack in 1998 on his single Hard Knock Life.
Emma, who’s been writing the script for three years now, is super excited about the project. She told the BBC that she is especially pumped for, “having dinner with Jay-Z.” Wouldn’t we all be?
So how’s the production coming along? According to Emma, "In the autumn, we get to go to LA to work with Willow and work on more of the script. Jay-Z has already started working on the music. We will start shooting in the spring in New York."
The film is said to be set in modern day New York and include many of the film’s original songs-with a Jay-Z twist of course.
When asked about Willow, Emma was quick to say how much she thought of the starlet. "I really like Willow. She is getting so tall. I mean both Willow and Jayden (her brother and star of The Karate Kid) are remarkable."
Looks like it’s only onwards and upwards for the Smith family!
