Robert Webb and Lucy Punch in The Wedding Video
A nuptials-themed comedy starring comedian Rufus Hound (no, we weren’t entirely sure who he was either but he’s really, really funny) may not be your idea of a must-see, but The Wedding Video, in which he stars, is comedy gold.
Hound plays Raif, a happy-go-lucky, out-of-work backpacker who returns to the UK, from his Australian travels, for the wedding of his straight-laced brother Tim (Peep Show’s Robert Webb) and his blushing bride Saskia, played brilliantly by our current comedy crush, Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger).
Though she may seem rich, sensible and equally straight-laced, that’s not quite how Raif remembers Saskia, who he knew at school as the wild child whom all the boys fancied and all the girls were scared of.
As a present to Tim and Saskia, Raif decides to film the entire wedding shenanigans from planning to execution - mental wedding planners and overbearing, competitive mothers included. In doing so, he unwittingly derails their special day.
We’ve been longing for an all-British, wedding-themed comedy for a while. Four Wedding and a Funeral paved the way for such a genre back in 1994 and The Wedding Video happily takes it’s crown. A must-see.
