She’s spoken about wanting to pursue a career in fashion when the 2012 games are over.
But first, Victoria Pendleton has the small matter of some crunch Olympic cycling events to attend to. And her first appearance in the Velodrome today is the diary date we’ve been waiting for for aaaaaaaaages – whooo hooo!
So, take your phone off the hook and write off this afternoon at work (don’t worry, your boss will be doing EXACTLY the same thing)… and cheer on V-Pen.
First up is the women’s team sprint qualifier at 4pm, with team mate Jessica Varnish. The first round is at 4.45 and the finals are at 5.50pm.
She’ll then be back out on Friday for the keirin event (when all the bikes follow a motorbike before a sprint finish) and then the individual sprint.
And judging from her form, we’re predicting Victoria will be on the winner’s podium... more than once.
She picked up gold in Beijing in 2008, but admits it was a difficult time after news of her relationship with coach Scott Gardner.
‘Everyone was so angry that Scott and I had fallen in love… Winning the gold medal should have been the happiest day of my life but it felt like the saddest.’
Here’s hoping 2012 puts the smile back on her face. Go Victoria!
